Skyview Drags, West of Binghamton NY
Posted: [12/12/09 by Bob Lascak]
The Big Night of Fire Saturday September 5th was the next stop on the Warriors tour and getting ready for the huge crowds that owner George Swansbrough and track manger Amy Culder have been so successful in managing. The Skyview track is a great work of art located on the top of a mountain with a wonderful scenic NY country side view.
The Track is always ready with plenty of teeth on the starting line and that makes it ready for the Blown injected Warrior Crews and the Mix of door slammers and nostalgic altereds.
This was a special night for a lot reasons as the IHRA Pro Am tour was also present to finish a previous rain-out. The Motzs JET truck that just loves to eat up the Skyview tower along with a passing pick-up, never cross behind Bob Motzs at full boost.
The Warriors and the rest of the show groups were on a show mission of success and a tight points battle as the Warriors season was winding down.
Bill Bonnattis Thunderstruck was leading the points going into the last couple races with Jared Yuhasz HELL Raiser T second by 2 points and Madman Mike Himes was off the lead by 6 points. This race was pivotal towards the 09 Season Champion.
Madman led the first round of qualifying after the local tribute parade of rescue and emergency vehicles and personnel started the Show.
Bill Bonanti had the unfortunate issue trying to win the Mickey Thompson Burnout challenge with a great smoke show but a valve decided it was time leave its happy home and destroy his challenge towards the 09 points top award.
The Burnout challenge was won by a close call with Joe Veschusio and the Thriller taking that award, Madman Himes won the Enderle quick reaction time award. Elimination left New Warrior Moose Danes and his Get Blown 23 T small block powered Blown Injected high Winding terror against Madman Mike Himes Camaro Rodeck powered.
The final race was great with both cars on kill and Moose showing the way to his first win as a Warrior with a right on index 4.857 over the veteran Mike Himes in a close one as Mikes motor went off song a bit.
Special thanks to George, Amy and all involved in a successful September outing.
